Kate Wagoner

Hi there!

My name is Kate Wagoner (she/they). You might also hear me referred to as Willow, my gender nonconforming name. I am thrilled to be a counselor intern with The Oak Center.

My approach to being a therapist is this: I believe we are all our own “wise teachers.” We all have the answers we need within, and sometimes it’s really helpful to have another person along side with you on your journey of life to explore values, make meaning of life experiences, and connect. I want all my clients to know that we are in this together, and ultimately build the skills and self trust to know they can navigate any situation that comes their way.

I utilize evidence based practices: DBT and CBT. My passion lies in working with the queer community, young adults, and anyone who has experienced grief, trauma, adverse childhood experiences, or intense life changes.

I’ve lived in Columbia since 2018 and I consider it my forever home! I completed my undergraduate degree at Mizzou and am in the process of completing my masters degree at Stephens College. One reason why I love working with The Oak Center is my drive for serving the broader Columbia community, and delivering accessible mental health care to everyone.

I have a variety of work and life experiences ranging from teaching preschool, managing a Residential Life department at a local college, leading local mindfulness and meditation services, completing training modules in DBT and sand tray, and volunteering with communities such as The Peace Nook, Loaves and Fishes, and Central Missouri Foster Care.

When I’m not with The Oak Center, I’m involved with local communities and outreach, practicing yoga, laughing with my friends and family, or having an existential breakdown. (Jokes!). But in all seriousness, I like to try new things (I’d love to hear your current hyper fixation), explore new and local places, and learn things I didn’t know before.

My supervisor for my internship at The Oak Center is Brighton Sanchez.
