Nathan Schuetze
Hi, I’m Nathan (he/him), another sapling therapist here at The Oak Center for DBT and Counseling Services. I am passionate about walking alongside people as they discover their “life worth living.” Life can be painful and messy, and sometimes it feels overwhelming. My role is to provide a safe, supportive space where we can work together to build tolerance for those hard moments while developing tools that create hope and lasting change.
I was drawn to The Oak Center because of its focus on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) that balances acceptance and change, helping us honor the reality of where we are while also moving toward the life we want. In our work together, I won’t ask vague or abstract questions just to fill the air. Instead, I’ll listen closely, collaborate with you, and help you learn practical skills that can bring both immediate relief and long-term growth.
Counseling is a partnership. I can offer skills, encouragement, and support, but your role is equally important as you practice and apply them in your own life. While I can’t live your life for you, I will be alongside you every step of the way, cheering for your progress and helping you navigate challenges as they come.
I am currently transitioning into the second season of my career, moving from IT account management to pursuing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. While I have experience in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Neurosequential Modeling, the Townsend Method, and other approaches, my foundational practice here at The Oak Center is DBT.
What you can expect when working with me is a collaborative, respectful relationship where you are seen, heard, and supported. I believe healing happens when we integrate both acceptance of where we are and courage to take steps toward change.
Outside the office I will admit to being somewhat of a nerd. I still love playing board games with my bride of more than 25 years, DnD with my two teenage boys and embarrassing my 18-year-old daughter as much as I can.
A final thought I once read:
This life therefore is not goodness, but growth in goodness,
not health, but healing,
not being but becoming,
not rest but exercise.
We are not yet what we shall be, but we are growing toward it,
the process is not yet finished, but it is going on,
this is not the end, but it is the road.
