Planting Roots: Parenting Skills from a DBT Perspective

from $50.00

The Oak Center is proud to offer a resource to help parents navigate complicated and often stressful mental health symptoms. You might benefit from this group if you fall into any of these categories:

  • You are a caregiver who is currently enrolled in or has graduated from a DBT multifamily skills group and want a refresher on skills

  • You are a caregiver of a teen on The Oak Center's waitlist

  • You are a caregiver who wants to learn more effective strategies to support and address your child’s intense emotions

The topics identified for these classes have been carefully selected from the DBT curriculum and treatment program. Each month will focus on a different skill or concept. Participant engagement will be encouraged in a supportive and validating way.

This class is not a sufficient replacement of a comprehensive DBT program. If comprehensive DBT has been recommended for your child, it is strongly encouraged that you continue pursuit of that treatment in addition to attending any of these classes.

The class occurs monthly and is cash-pay only: $50 per person per class. We will not bill this to insurance. You may attend as many groups as you find beneficial; you are not obligated to attend all.

EARLY BIRD SPECIAL: $10 off if you register at least two weeks in advance! Please be sure to select this option when registering.

BOGO: We do offer a buy one get one at a 50% discount if two parents/coaches for the same adolescent want to attend the same group. Please be sure to select this option when registering.

This class is offered the second Friday of the month, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Friday, 5/10/2024 - Crisis Survival Skills

The focus of this group will be on two skills from the DBT ‘Distress Tolerance’ module: TIPP and Wise Mind ACCEPTS. These skills can be learned and implemented easily and can provide quick de-escalation.
